The Power of I’m Sorry

Have you actually ever taken the time to think about what the words I’m sorry means to a person? After this past month I have truly come to realized how weighted those words can be. When theyare said with honesty, care and concern they can truly impact a person.
These words unfortunately are usually associated with grief and sorrow which makes them even more important to hear. Rather than try to “fix” an already difficult situation or telling someone how they “should” feel, saying I’m sorry portrays a genuine care and understanding; an ear to lend and a shoulder to cry on.
Everyone deals with grief differently and many times people keep how they are really feeling bottled up inside in an attempt to bury these foreign emotions. I have found that the best thing to say in any of these situations, the thing that just makes a person feel better, is to say I’m sorry. I’m sorry for the pain you are experiencing; I’m sorry there is nothing I can say or do to make this any easier; I’m sorry for the void that you now have in your life. Though these words may not change anything, they bring a sense of peace, an understanding that there are people in your life that truly care about you and are there for you in this troubling time.
So the next time you are faced with a situation that you are at a loss for words, try simply, I’m sorry.
