Bright Lights, Big City

I recently had the opportunity to check something off of my bucket list that I had been waiting to do for quite some time. I had the opportunity to visit New York City. NYC has been the one city that ever since I was young, I couldn’t wait to visit. The city seemed to come to life at night and glow during the day. I wanted to experience all that New York City had to offer for myself, and i figured what better way to do that than for my 25th birthday. It worked out perfectly since my mom has a birthday near mine, so we planned a trip on a whim and headed to the city of lights to spend our joint birthdays.

We decided that Times Square was a must to see and experience and luckily found a hotel within walking distance. The hotel was an European inspired newly built hotel that was very futuristic seeming to us Kentucky small town girls. The Yotel Hotel was located very conveniently to Times Square and downtown New York City. The futuristic and fun feel to the hotel was exactly what we needed to begin our week of adventures.

We never really had a plan of what we were going to do, we just flew by the seat of our pants and let the city come to us. We visited the Starbucks down the street each morning and sat on Times Square taking in the life of the city. One of the highlights of my trip was getting to see my first Broadway show! My mom and I stumbled upon tickets and decided upon Priscilla Queen of the Desert.   It was absolutely amazing! Not everyday do you get to witness a musical directed by Bette Midler that incorporates men in drag singing classic Madonna songs!

We spent our days touring around the city making sure we stopped by all of the sights. Watching a taping of the Today show on Rockafellar Center, having lunch while looking out over the Hudson at the Statue of Liberty, hanging out with Robin, Sam, Lara and Josh on the set of Good Morning America and touring the NBC studios all made for the most memorable trip I have ever been on.

New York City is certainly the city of lights that never sleeps. The energy of the city is contagious and there is such diversity among the people walking its’ streets. I have never been to a city that offers so much possibility of adventure. Wherever you go, whatever you do it is an experience unlike any other. Out of all of the cities I have been to so far, New York City is definitely my favorite and the one that I can’t wait to visit again!
